Since I have been thinking about heart quilts, I knew I needed to design a pantograph that could be used with these designs. So this weeks video tutorial will be on using Art and Stitch to design your own interlocking pantograph. You will hear my thought process as I clean up the pantograph design and see my edits. (I did speed up some of the editing to cut about 10 minutes from the video.) Here are a couple of options for using the design. Did you enjoy drafting your own heart swirl design? Last week I shared with you how I drafted a couple of Valentine blocks using Easy Draw within Electric Quilt. If you missed that tutorial, click here to catch up. This week I want to share a hot off the press setting for you. This was done using the Custom Set feature in Electric Quilt. Learn some tricks for using Custom Sets in this weeks free Electric Quilt video tutorial. Heart Quilt Piecing SuggestionsThis quilt finishes 56" x 72" -- a very nice lap quilt. With all of the cold weather we have been having recently, I think I need an extra cuddle quilt. Here are rotary cutting charts: The inner border is 2" finished (2-1/2" unfinished). The outer board is 4" finished (4-1/2" unfinished). When piecing the blocks, you will want to split the small block in half and the double blocks in thirds. Piece the rows across the quilt using the split sections from the blocks. Fabric Selection for Valentine QuiltThere are not a lot of new red/pink collections at the moment. Thanks for those that offered suggestions. Which one appeals to you? Valentines Day 2016 Table RunnerAfter creating the lap quilt, I came up with a small wall quilt using the same basic concept. We are less than a month away from Valentine's Day. I watch a lot of the Hallmark Channel and they have been playing "romance" movies since the beginning of the year. I know they are hokey, but I like "feel good" movies. They make me feel warm and happy. I also like a new quilt as it evokes the same feeling. One thing I like to do each year is design a new Valentine's Day quilt. I spent some time at my computer today and found an old "Double Heart" block I had designed a while ago. I decided to play a bit with a new quilt design in Custom Set. But I will save that part until next week. Let's start with the easy stuff -- and use Easy Draw to draft the block. I also came up with a complementary design that I drafted in Easy Draw as well. I'm still trying to decide what fabric collection to use for designing my heart quilt. I need something with pinks, reds and I think grey for the background. (I am totally enamored with grey backgrounds at the moment.) However the background could also be white or tan. Do you have any suggestions? Here are the two blocks. Here is the video showing how you can draft the blocks using Electric Quilt. Last weeks my Electric Quilt tutorial video showed drafting the main block for my newly design snowflake table runner. I also provide both rotary cutting and foundation piecing instructions for the block. Click here if you missed it. The week my Electric Quilt video tutorial will cover the setting blocks and finishing the quilt. Feel free to save the images below to your computer. This will allow you to trace the blocks using Electric Quilt. _Foundation and rotary cutting patterns for the blocks are below:
If using Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper 1 for the flying geese units, cut the large square 3-1/2" x 3-1/2". Cut the corner triangle pieces 2" x 2". Trim the completed unit to 2-1/2" x 1-1/2". The borders are cut as follows:

Happy New Year! We finally got some snow. I am so thankful for a neighbor that shoveled my driveway for the last two snowfalls. Since snow has been on my brain, I played a bit in Electric Quilt to design a new snowflake table runner. Here is the table runner and the main block. This weeks video is the first part of creating this project using Electric Quilt. I've included a close-up of the snowflake block, as I think it is usually easiest to draft a block by tracing it. You have my permission to save a copy of this block to your computer for your personal use. The Electric Quilt video tutorial will include (1) importing a block for tracing; (2) set up and use of Easy Draw for drafting the block and (3) Finding and Adding Additional Fabrics using the "Find by Color" method in the Fabric library.
