Customize Your Valentine Quilt

1/23/2016

Last week I shared with you how I drafted a couple of Valentine blocks using Easy Draw within Electric Quilt.  If you missed that tutorial, click here to catch up.

This week I want to share a hot off the press setting for you.  This was done using the Custom Set feature in Electric Quilt.  Learn some tricks for using Custom Sets in this weeks free Electric Quilt video tutorial.

Heart Quilt Piecing Suggestions

This quilt finishes 56" x 72" -- a very nice lap quilt.  With all of the cold weather we have been having recently, I think I need an extra cuddle quilt.

Here are rotary cutting charts:
  • 8" Single Heart
  • 12" Double Hearts

The inner border is 2" finished (2-1/2" unfinished).
The outer board is 4" finished (4-1/2" unfinished).

When piecing the blocks, you will want to split the small block in half and the double blocks in thirds.  Piece the rows across the quilt using the split sections from the blocks.

Fabric Selection for Valentine Quilt

There are not a lot of new red/pink collections at the moment. Thanks for those that offered suggestions.  Which one appeals to you?

Valentines Day 2016 Table Runner

After creating the lap quilt, I came up with a small wall quilt using the same basic concept.
Custom Set Design in EQ7Heart Table Runner by Kari Schell. Using Petite Fleur Deux fabrics by Moda.

17-1/2" x 32-1/2"

For the table runner, the small blocks were 6" x 6" (finished size) and the large blocks were 9" x 9" (finished size).

Inner border was .75" finished.

Outber border was 2" finished.

Quilt finishes at 17-1/2" x 32-1/2".

Rotary Cutting Charts
  • 6" Single Heart
  • 9" Double Heart
In the double heart, note that your will eliminate some of the large squares.

I am having memory delays this morning - how do we get the collections of fabric again to be in our EQ?

I loved the tutorial and want to play with collections again. Thanks so much Kari!
