Pickle Dish Part 2

1/31/2017

It is hard to believe that January is over.  I have been having a blast with a great group of students in my Introduction to Electric Quilt class.  I have two new online Electric Quilt classes that are starting in February.  If you would like to join the fun, there is more information on these classes later in the post.
Antique quilts are always inspiring.  I particularly loved the red, tan and whites in this Pickle Dish Variation quilt and think it would make a spectacular valentine quilt.  (Thanks to Rita for letting me share my version of her quilt with you.)

A couple of weeks ago, I shared how to draft the block in this quilt.  If you missed it, please check out this post.

This week, I will share with you my thoughts on creating the setting in Electric Quilt.  I originally did this in custom set -- but then discovered a trick for using a standard horizontal setting.

Both are shared in this weeks video tutorial.

I have been fighting the "crud" this week and didn't get much done in my business.

I will post part 2 of the Pickle Dish quilt next week -- but for this week I decided to create a new applique block in Electric Quilt.

If you haven't done much with applique in Electric Quilt you will enjoy this video.  You will also see some tips in using Wreath Maker.

Pickle Dish Variation - an Electric Quit Tutorial

1/20/2017

Picture
In an Electric Quilt facebook group, Rita L. posted a photo of a block from this quilt.  This quilt was handed down through her husband's family and she wanted to create a copy of the quilt.

Although she didn't use Electric Quilt, she knew the key to piecing this quilt was a decent "quilt pattern".  Of course we all know that this is something that Electric Quilt does well.
Picture
Picture
My original thoughts when looking at this was that it needed to be created in the applique section of the program.  However upon further review, I realized that this could be done in Easy Draw.  And an even greater plus is that with a few adaptions it could be paper pieced.

See how I tackled drafting this  block in Easy Draw in this weeks video tutorial.
If you would like to trace my block, feel free to copy this picture to My EQ7>Images.  You may then insert it in the Images tab and trace the image in the Easy Draw tab.
Picture
Next week I will share tips for creating the setting for this block in Electric Quilt.

Transferring Designs from Electric Quilt to Silhouette Cameo

1/11/2017

Did you know I have a You Tube channel?  My goal has been to place copies of my older videos on my You Tube channel.  This will give you an easy place to search for those oldies but goodies. It is also useful if you are searching for a particular Electric Quilt or Art and Stitch topic.

You Tube informed me that I now have over 1,000 subscribers.  I suspect a few of you may be on that list.  If not, feel free to hop over to my You Tube channel and subscribe.

Included are separate playlists for both Art and Stitch and Electric Quilt videos.  So you can focus on the area that most interests you.

When cleaning up my You Tube channel, I came across a video on transferring applique designs from Electric Quilt to the Silhouette Cameo.  What a great way to cut your applique shapes -- particularly if you need precision in the process.

I thought I would replay the video this week as I suspect many of you may have missed it back in 2014.  :)

Text and Template Tips

1/6/2017

I am back on my gift card holder kick as Josie's 8th birthday is this week.  I created a fun design in Electric Quilt Stitch.  This could also be done in Patch Draw motif.
Design by Kari Schell of On Point Quilter
Birthday Gift Card Holder Created in Electric Quilt Stitch
When I went to add my text, I managed to crash Electric Quilt four times.  I finally went back and read the manual and realized what I was doing wrong.  Since not everyone reads the manual -- I thought this might be a good tutorial.

I also share how to create mirror image templates in Electric Quilt.  This one is important for both Patch Draw blocks and Applique Stitch projects.
Here is my stitched out gift card holder.
Created using Electric Quilt Stitch
Birthday Gift Card Holder
I am not sure why I ended up with blue dots in the middle of my sprinkles.  Is that a stitching/tension issue or something in my digitizing process?  More experimenting on my part is necessary.

If you need instructions on putting together the gift card holder check out this blog post.

Zooming Into 2017

I am changing my communication software for classes and coaching sessions to Zoom.  Would you like to see how easy it is to be a participant in a Zoom training session?  Check out this video tutorial.
See how easy it is.  No need to travel -- but learn from the comfort of your own home.

Are you ready to get started?  My Introduction to Electric Quilt class is starting on January 16th.  There are only a few slots remaining.
