Getting Ready for Valentines Day

1/16/2016

We are less than a month away from Valentine's Day.  I watch a lot of the Hallmark Channel and they have been playing "romance" movies since the beginning of the year.  I know they are hokey, but I like "feel good" movies.  They make me feel warm and happy.  I also like a new quilt as it evokes the same feeling.  One thing I like to do each year is design a new Valentine's Day quilt.

I spent some time at my computer today and found an old "Double Heart" block I had designed a while ago.  I decided to play a bit with a new quilt design in Custom Set.  But I will save that part until next week.

Let's start with the easy stuff -- and use Easy Draw to draft the block.  I also came up with a complementary design that I drafted in Easy Draw as well.

I'm still trying to decide what fabric collection to use for designing my heart quilt.  I need something with pinks, reds and I think grey for the background.  (I am totally enamored with grey backgrounds at the moment.)  However the background could also be white or tan.  Do you have any suggestions?

Here are the two blocks.

Here is the video showing how you can draft the blocks using Electric Quilt.

Introduction to Electric Quilt (first session starts on January 26th)

Are you new to Electric Quilt (or maybe you have not used the software much in the last couple of years).  If so, I know you will be interested in my Introduction to Electric Quilt Class.

This online class will cover basic navigation of the software, creating a new project, using the libraries, using Quick Quilts for fast projects, adding borders, coloring tools/fabrics, creating quilt labels and printing quilts, blocks, fabric yardage estimates, rotary cutting and foundation patterns.  By the end of the two sessions you will be comfortable working with the program and be able to explore additional features on your own.    Users of all levels are welcome, with special emphasis on beginners.

Dates:  January 26 and February 2nd.  6:30 - 9:00 pm (Central time)

Class size will be limited to 10 participants.  We will use screen sharing technology -- so you will be able to see my screen and if you have specific questions, I will also be able to view yours as well.

Click here to register.  (Suggestion:  There will be a coupon that can be applied toward this class in my weekly newsletter.  Sign up now to obtain the code or send me a note.)

Another fun tutorial. Thank you Kari! I actually just got caught up yesterday and now have the last 2 tutorials of the snowflake table runner accomplished as well. These would be so fun to do as mini quilts for each month of the year wouldn't they?
I have been collecting "With All My Heart" fabrics from Shabby Fabrics online and some others from Laundry Basket Quils; Sticks and Stones, for making the Vintage Valentine Quilt by Verna Mosquera at The Vintage Spool - - -I've not started it yet. It's applique and I have some bigger projects to hustle through before I can start it. Obviously a next year project but maybe that would help you in possible fabric ideas?

Thanks for the double heart design Kari! I'm looking forward to seeing your setting ideas. And wish I could kick start myself to learning EQ!
