Equilateral Triangle Quilts Made Easy

12/30/2017

In one of the Electric Quilt Facebook groups this week, someone was asking about creating non-rectangular blocks for a quilt designed with equilateral triangles.

My recommendation was to design a pieced equilateral block in either Pieced Patch Draw or in the Applique section of the program.  But after thinking about this, I decided there is a much simpler option -- one which I will share with you in this weeks free video tutorial.
Here are the blocks and my designed quilts presented in this video..

Are you ready to really learn Electric Quilt 8 in 2017?  If so, I would love to help you realize your potential with my new Tech Know Quilters membership program.

This is a great opportunity to unleash the power of Electric Quilt the Easy Peasy way.

What is the Easy Peasy way? Training delivered in bite sized increments (think 5-10 minute videos plus written step by step instructions).  You will receive 13 lessons a month -- delivered directly to your inbox.

During the January class we will be working with fabric images from a variety of sources.  One of the most frequently asked questions I hear from EQ users is "How can I  obtain and work with either fabrics from manufacturer's websites or my own fabric collection".  I am looking forward in assisting you in gaining skills in using the fabrics of your choice in your future EQ8 projects.

JOY Quilt Plus Free Foundations

12/16/2017

Picture
When I was perusing the EQ8 block library, I saw a wonderful block in the holiday collection.  Do you see a Christmas stocking when you look at this block?  I actually saw the letter J.

I then thought about how I could expand on the concept of this block by creating a series of alphabet  blocks with a candy cane motif.
I went to the alphabet blocks and found a couple that I thought might work.

After some playing, I realized I couldn't nicely just add the candy cane stripes.  So I decided to just start from scratch and create the blocks in Easy Draw.

My video tutorial this week will share with you how to draw these candy cane blocks for yourself.

MN Quilters 2018 Mystery

Picture
Who doesn't like a good mystery?  What about a quilt pattern that will be presented over the next year?

I created a really fun quilt (using Electric Quilt) entitled Flight of Fancy.  This was designed specifically for Minnesota Quilters, who has exclusive rights to present the pattern for 2018.

The quilt is a traditional design (with no curved piecing or applique).  You can choose the size you want to make: Small is 66" x 78", Medium is 66" x 90", and Large is 90" x 90".

When you register, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the introduction and fabric choice instructions so you can be ready when you receive your first clue at noon on January 1, 2018!

You also have the option to join a private Facebook group administered by MN Quilters where you can ask questions and share progress.  I have joined the Facebook group and plan to participate in the discussion.

Do you like the look of circular quilts -- but struggle with how to turn a rectangular work space in Electric Quilt into a circle quilt?  In today's free video tutorial, let me guide you in how to do this.

You are going to love the process for creating a circular quilt, adding a circular binding and then creating a wreath motif for a fun Christmas tree skirt or table topper.
