I am not Irish. But I love green. I also have a March birthday -- which meant that I always had shamrocks (or something green) decorating my birthday cakes while I was growing up. (So maybe there is a wee bit of Irish in me.) One of my first piecing patterns was a pattern that incorporated shamrocks, a Celtic Knot and Irish Chain blocks. I also developed a series of complementary quilting designs for the Smiling Irish Eyes quilts. (I got a little carried away and developed more designs than I needed -- but figured I could save them for a future quilt.) For my video tutorial this week, I though I would share how to draft a Shamrock quilting motif using Art and Stitch. Art and Stitch is digitizing software for quilter and embroiderers. One of my first published videos was drawing a shamrock block. However, in reviewing the video I realized that my digitizing skills have improved. There were also a few changes in the most recent release of the software (free to all current owners of the software) that changed my drafting a bit. So consider this the new and improved video. Featured Product - Shamrock Quilting DesignsI am excited to announce the release of my complete set of Shamrock quilting designs. Many of these designs include multiple sizes (with one of the sizes conducive to the small 4" machine embroidery hoops). There are also both embroidery and quilting formats included with the downloads for these patterns. (No need to purchase separately.) All of these quilting designs are on sale for 50% off this week. Click on the photo to be taken to the store to purchase individual designs. There is also an option for purchasing a bundle of all of these designs plus my Smiling Irish Eyes piecing pattern for additional savings. For the bundled set click here. Shamrock Digital BundleFor additional savings, purchase a bundle that includes all the designs listed about plus the pattern for piecing Smiling Irish Eyes table topper and wall quilts. Thanks to Jo of Fat Quarter Gypsy for dreaming up the Blog Pop. I also want to publicly thank her for letting me be one of the first designers to create a design that merged a piecing pattern with her Pop-Up pattern. For those that don't know what a pop-up is, check out Jo's short Facebook video, showing it in action. I think it is great for holding miscellaneous supplies in your sewing room. This pop-up uses the Fat Quarter Gypsy Stacking Pop-Up Pattern, the Fat Quarter Gypsy Medium 8" Spring Refill and On Point Quilter's Let's Go Fly a Kite pattern. The supplemental pattern (which shows how it all comes together) is FREE. Electric Quilt 7 Pop UpsFor those that don't know me -- I am big into computerized quilting programs. My favorites are Electric Quilt for designing my patterns and Art and Stitch for creating digital designs for my longarm. So for my blog post, I thought I would share with you how to create your own custom pop-up layout using Electric Quilt 7. Once you have completed this, you can then bring in your own blocks (or maybe use a few orphan blocks laying around your sewing room). The video covers designs for the Medium spring. Obviously the concept could be easily adapted for the other sized pop-ups. Note: The video is large and can take some time to load. One thing I found that helps is clicking on the blog title before clicking on the video. Here are the Pop-Up patterns from the video. If you design your own Pop-Up panel using Electric Quilt, please share photos on my Facebook page. If you would like to learn Electric Quilt to better create your own quilts, I have a couple of Online Instructor Led classes starting on February 23rd. For my newsletter subscribers, there are discount coupons available for both of these classes. If you just signed up for the online newsletter and need the coupon "ASAP", just send me a note and I will get back to you with the code. Introduction to Electric Quilt 7This online class will cover basic navigation of the software, creating a new project, using the libraries, using Quick Quilts for fast projects, adding borders, coloring tools/fabrics, creating quilt labels and printing quilts, blocks, fabric yardage estimates, rotary cutting and foundation patterns. By the end of class you will be comfortable working with the program and be able to explore additional features on your own. Users of all levels are welcome, with special emphasis on beginners. Dates: February 23, March 1,8 and 15 10 - 11:30 am (Central time) (four sessions) Class size will be limited to 10 participants. Easy Draw - New Online ClassHave you ever found the “perfect” block online. But then realized you wanted to piece it a different way. Maybe you want rotary cutting instructions or a foundation pattern. Or maybe you want a different size to incorporate into a different quilt. With Electric Quilt you can redraft these blocks. This class will focus on how to “read a block” and then come up with the most efficient way to draft it with Electric Quilt. The 22 blocks in this class are those that can be done in a “grid” format – basically just like drawing with a pencil and graph paper. Within Electric Quilt these blocks are drafted within Easy Draw. Level: Advanced Beginner. Dates: February 23, March 1, and 8 6:30 - 7:30 pm (Central time) (three sessions) Class size will be limited to 10 participants. Featured Patterns - Valentines Day and St. Patricks Day BundleFor this weeks feature, I though I would bundle the quilt patterns for two small quilts together. And then I decided to put the bundle on sale.
Get both Be My Valentine and Smiling Irish Eyes patterns for $12. Purchase combined bundle here. There is a lot going on this week -- especially on the Electric Quilt front. Cornerstone Elimination In a Facebook group I am in, one of the members asked about eliminating the Cornerstones when creating a quilt using Electric Quilt. I immediately thought of two ways to address her problem -- and after thinking some more came up with a third way. My video this week demonstrates all three. I would love to know which method you would prefer. For each of my examples, I decided to assume a 10 inch block and 2-1/2 inch sashing and a setting of three blocks across and four down.
