Ghost Parade

10/27/2018

Picture
Ghost Parade created in EQ8 by Kari Schell
Are you looking for a fast Halloween project.  Try Ghost Parade.  Just one ghost -- but multiple sizes included in an easy custom set layout.

My ghosts were inspired by one created by Nancy Witte in the Tech Know Quitler's group.

Enjoy this free EQ8 tutorial.

Happy Halloween from Tech Know Quilter Members

Each of these quilts was created in EQ8 as part of a fall/Halloween design challenge.  I love their creativity.
Picture
Nancy Witte She modified the cat block from the Foundation Blocks Animal category. The alphabet blocks are from the foundation Blocks Alphabet section. The other foundation pieced blocks were drafted by Nancy. She set the words in a quilt and then played with the borders to set up the rest of the quilt.
Picture
Adrienne Quinlan This has ended up more Fall than Halloween I started with some cat silhouettes (but they did not make the finished quilt). I then searched EQ block library for cats (to put in blocks behind the cat silhouettes) and found a corner border block called Staccato Corner. The fabric is from the Library (Themes- 10 leaves). Its set in an on-point layout

Julie Pedersen I used applique and foundation techniques to create this one called "Cat Ghosts". There were a few blocks that I used from the library and others I created.
Picture
Holly Wilson Decided to draw 2 blocks from scratch, brought in 1 applique of a cat, so much fun,
Picture
Holly Wilson Used color pages, imported, resized, used applique and polydraw, cloned, edited, interesting to try different fabric.

Wanda Jewell is a new Tech Know Quilter member and is just getting started on mastering Electric Quilt. Mine is more fall than Halloween I made like 30 variations on the quilt before I was happy with it.
Picture
Nancy Meyers I remembered a tutorial you had, Kari Schell, about making one's own fabric. So, to illustrate that and some grinning jack-o-lantern faces, I came up with a table runner.

Joyce Drenth I loosely replicated my wooden letters I painted to decorate my mantel. This could be a bed or table runner.
Picture
Laura Sapko I went with a Harvest Appliqué ... I started this before I had EQ8. I ended up changing the design as I actually made it. A potential future pattern.

Picture
Dotty Smalley I changed several of the applique blocks in EQ8 to motifs so I could overlay them on a variety of other Halloween blocks. I also changed some of the applique blocks to have different faces and moved some of the appliques within the blocks for a better presentation.
Picture
Debbie Wheadon Started with Quilt Layout by Style- block turned quilt 13 (Storm at Sea) then converted EQ8 blocks into motifs, changed lettering on gravestone. A quilt for fun.

Kristy S. Halloween needs a Wicked Witch. Inspired by the musical Wicked! I was thrilled to get to use the skills Kari taught us in our applique course.

Joy Hegglund I found the owl block on Pinterest, traced it, drew the witch and pumpkin tree and add the cat and bats from the EQ libraries.
Picture
Janet Kirby This was a fun challenge. The bats were drawn by hand. The center witches were rotated and then I used serendipity to create the rest of the quilt.

Madeline Brown - Happy Halloween! Used some of our blocks from the mix and match medallions class and some new ones from EQ library. Its actually on point with black background. Lots of fun Halloween fabrics out there!

Adding a Pieced Border to Finish the Cancer Awareness Ribbon Quilt

10/20/2018

Picture
Log Cabin Cancer Awareness Quilt designed by Kari Schell using EQ8
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  To honor those impacted by cancer I have created a cancer awareness ribbon quilt.

During the last session we found a log cabin block in the EQ library and created a quilt based on that block.  If you missed the video tutorial you can watch it here.

During this session, I will show you how to draft the border block using EasyDraw.  I finalized the quilt by adding borders.

Lucy Boston-like Blocks and Quilts

This block can be a bit of a challenge to draft in Electric Quilt -- but these Tech Know Quilter's members have definitely mastered it as demonstrated by some of their latest designs.

Isn't it amazing how variety of quilts and blocks all inspired by the same block.  I love the different fabrics used.

Elizabeth Dicrescenzo made a quilt that was designed by Katja Marek and featured on the cover of Quilter's Connection magazine. Elizabeth used a different method to draft the block -- but it is the same style.

Cancer Ribbon Log Cabin

10/13/2018

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  I created a quilt using EQ8 to honor those going through a battle with cancer.  This ribbon quilt was inspired by a picture I saw on Pinterest and uses just one block from the EQ library and a simple layout.

Even if you are just getting started with EQ -- you can definitely recreate this quilt in EQ8.
If you would like to piece this quilt (using logs cut from 1-1/2" strips),  I've created downloadable rotary cutting charts for each of the four block colorations included in the quilt.

Click on each image to access the color coded rotary cutting charts.

This block and the quilts would also be adaptable for logs cut from different size strips.

Here are the quilts presented in the video.

Tech Know Quilters Hexagon Challenge

Last month we had quite a number of Tech Know Quilters in the Hexagon blocks and borders class.  A number of them participated in a challenge to design their own hexagon blocks using PolyDraw.

Check out their wonderful designs.

Kathy Delaney noted "A friend of mine, Kelly Ashton, wrote a book called HEXAGONS, TRIANGLES, DIAMONDS AND MORE. Since I got to make a quilt for the book, I thought I would try to "design" some of the blocks I have sewn."

Electric Quilt 8 Falling Leaves Tutorial
This is a continuation on using Accuquilt dies in a quilt.  If you missed the first part of this series, see how to create individual perfectly sized motifs that match those that are created with the Accuquilt dies here.

In the tutorial today, see an option for setting the leaves from these dies in a quilt..
How are you using your falling leaf motifs?
