After celebrating Christmas with family in North Dakota, I returned a day early (beating the blizzard). In hindsight -- it was a very good decision. Now I have been busy preparing for 2019 and welcoming a new group of members to the Tech Know Quilter group. For this blog post, I decided to feature some of the amazing work that has been happening in the Tech Know Quilter group. I am so impressed by both the design skills and the skills in using EQ8 by this talented group. Tech Know Quilter Project ShowcaseAt the end of each month, I like to challenge the Tech Know Quilter members to create a block or a quilt that applies the lessons they learned during the previous month. With the Advent Quilt challenge, I haven't had a chance to highlight some of their most recent work. October Apply What You Learned ChallengePaula Miceli - I thoroughly enjoyed the Foundation Piecing class, as I do quite a bit of paper-piecing. Importing pictures to use as a guide to make foundation patterns was the most useful part of the class for me. This quilt was done in Custom Set. The smaller blocks were ready-made in the block library, and the tree was drafted during our class. We are currently on day 22 of the Advent Calendar Challenge. The challenge for today was "read the Christmas story". I decided I wanted a nativity block that was foundation piecing friendly. Learn how I chose to draft this using EasyDraw in this weeks free EQ8 video tutorial.
Here is the block from the video.
Here are the blocks presented last week.
My updated Advent Calendar tree -- only three blocks to go.

I've enjoyed making stockings for all my nieces and nephews over the years. So for my Christmas advent tree I decided to create a stocking -- just for me. In my video tutorial, I will share with you my trick for adding a log cabin block to the stocking as well as adding my name to the cuff.
Here is today's block.

My Blocks for Week 1
December 8 - Make Your Own Ornament
The challenge for today is make your own ornament. In my video tutorial, I will share with you how to draw a quick ornament and how you can quickly swap out the center of the ornament. I know you will love the technique.
My ornaments were inspired by a free project on Do You EQ entitled Delightful Decorations. Shoot for the Stars with EQ8

Do you remember having an advent calendar or maybe using one with your kids? Each day you would open a door and receive a treat or a special activity for that day.
I have designed a quilted advent calendar for you following that same idea. In this weeks free video tutorial, I will share with you how to design the tree and set it in a quilt. This tree would be super simple to piece using the rotary cutting chart from Electric Quilt Advent Calendar Challenge
Once you designed the tree -- it needs to be decorated.
So -- for the next 25 days, I have set up a special email series. With this series, you will receive one Christmas themed activity per day. These are the types of activities you will typically find in an advent activity calendar. Your challenge -- should you chose to accept it - is to design a block (or use a block from the EQ library) around the proposed Christmas activity. Those that have enrolled in one of my paid classes this year will be automatically enrolled in this class (so there is no need to sign up again if you enrolled in either Shoot for the Stars with EQ8 or Tech Know Quilters). All others will need to enroll. Day 1 Challenge - Attend a Christmas Concert
Your Day 1 Challenge is to design a block supporting the Christmas activity "Attend a Christmas concert".
How I selected my block. For this challenge I did a search for Music in the EQ block library and modified one of the blocks. These blocks will be set on Layer 2 (on top of the pieced quilt).
Would you like to share your designs? I would love to see them. Feel free to post in the private Facebook group -- Learning Electric Quilt. Click here to request membership.
Please post your blocks under the Advent Challenge post to assist in keeping the list organized. Shoot for the Stars with EQ8
