This week I will cover creation of an edge to edge pattern for the Let's Go Fly a Kite quilt. I thought I would cover this in two videos. Both show how I use Art and Stitch to create my design. Video 1 will cover creating the Kite plus tail. Video 2 will cover use of a template to create an interlocking design and placement of the kites and connecting everything up with a cloud filler design. The beauty of this pattern is that once you understand the process, it would be a great pattern to freehand on your domestic on non-computerized longarm machine. If sewing this freehand, stitch the string and tail first. Then add the top. In the second video I created an interlocking template and placed the kites. I also added clouds to fill in the empty space and connect everything up. Here is my final edge to edge design. Here is a photo of it super-imposed on my Let's Go Fly a Kite quilt. This one took a bit of time to draft and I realize that not all of you will want to draft your own rendition. Therefore, I decided to offer the pattern on my website in all the major quilting system formats. Since this is a new offering from me, I want to celebrate and will provide a 50% discount off the pattern for the next two weeks. The digitized pattern will regularly retail for $15. So it is on sale for $7.50. Click here to purchase and download. For those are still working on piecing the quilt, a reminder that onstructions for piecing the Kite quilt will be available until August 15th. Please make sure to print off anything you need by that time. Happy quilting.

I know that many of you have been working diligently on the kite blocks. It will make a great baby or kids quilt. I even heard of someone who will be adding more blocks for a larger version. Here is what the center of my quilt looks like. The video tutorial this week provides instructions on creating this layout using Electric Quilt. Lots of tips are in this one, including:
Next week we will be adding a pieced border. Featured Quilt Pattern - Christmas PresentsI was at a quilt shop yesterday and realized that they were hanging a Christmas quilt for "Christmas in July". It is never to early to get started for Christmas -- particularly since all the new Christmas fabrics are arriving in the shops. I hope you have fun things planned for this holiday (if you are in the US). To celebrate, I thought I would re-post my video on creating a Lady Liberty quilt using Electric Quilt. I will also be giving the next set of instructions for the Kite quilt. Featured Quilt - Come Said the WindPat C. shared her rendition of Come Said the Wind. She embroidered the poem on her version of this quilt. Very nice! The poem in the quilt was written by George Cooper, an American poet who lived from 1838 – 1927. The large wall hanging finishes to 33”□, while the small one finishes 15” x 12”. To make construction easier, many sections in the quilt use over-sized piecing along with specialty rulers. If you cannot find the specialty ruler, instructions are provided for use of traditional rulers. Purchase pattern here. Happy quilting.
