Swimming has been a sport at every Summer Olympics. It is one of my favorite to watch. I especially enjoy the synchronized swimming event. Today's block was inspired by the Snails Trail quilt block. I incorporate two of these blocks in the bottom half of the quilt to give the illusion of stroking. Click here to purchase the block pattern for paper piecing along with the circle for applique. Here is what the layout looks like with the five blocks provided to date. There will be 22 different blocks in the quilt (with a few blocks used more than once). I still haven't decided on the sashing color. I am waiting for more of my blocks to be completed and potentially a trip to the quilt store. Drafting Swimming Block Using Electric QuiltBlock>New Block>Easy Draw Plus Patch Draw Import Image for Tracing in the Tracing Image tab. Easy Draw Tab Settings Block Width and Height: 8 x 8 Snaps: 48 x 48 Snapping Options: Snap to Grid Draw Lines that are may be snapped to grid points (see image below). Change Snapping Options: Snap to Nodes only. Select line segments and click on the red dot with the Shape tool. Select Half for to add nodes at the mid-point of each line that needs to be divided. Use the Line tool to draw the lines (connecting the nodes). Continue subdividing and connecting the nodes to complete the block. Select the Applique tab.

Using the Line tool, divide block into major sections (see image below). Add to Sketchbook. Change snapping options to only Snap to Lines and Arcs of Drawing.
Trace each section. Add to Sketchbook after each section is drawn. Sometimes the lines will bend or shift a bit. If that happens just go back to the previous drawing in the Sketchbook and restart from that point. Archery is the first medal to be awarded in the Rio Olympics. So it makes sense that it is the first sport to be honored in the Summer Games quilt. Archery had its debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics The most noticeable trend has been the dominance of the Korean women archers, who have won 14 out of 15 gold medals in the women's events since 1984. I remember taking Archery in Gym class in Junior High School. I also remember trying my hand at Archery at Y Camp. Given the concerns with weapons in the schools, I wonder if they still offer that sport in our school systems. The free download period has ended. Trace the block. Add to Sketchbook. Save. The opening ceremonies for the Summer Olympics are tonight. I am sure each athlete taking part in the games is dreaming about taking home a medal. There are actually four blocks to piece while enjoying the opening ceremonies. The rings may be colored in gold, silver and bronze and are connected to a ribbon.
