In one of the Electric Quilt Facebook groups this week, someone was asking about creating non-rectangular blocks for a quilt designed with equilateral triangles.
My recommendation was to design a pieced equilateral block in either Pieced Patch Draw or in the Applique section of the program. But after thinking about this, I decided there is a much simpler option -- one which I will share with you in this weeks free video tutorial.
Here are the blocks and my designed quilts presented in this video..

I was able to do the Hexagon blocks but not able to put the hexagon motif behind it for the binding. It kept wanting to cut in behind one of the triangle sections. One of the section would come forward but the rest of the motif would stay up front, if that makes sense. Like the block was coming apart.

You might be picking up one of the other blocks instead of the binding block. Try moving the binding block to the right and then select move to back with the adjust tool. Then move it back in place. Also use the refresh tool -- as sometimes those "shadows" can be deceiving.

Thank you, that worked. I had to bring in the motif to the side, which it did not want to do, and then bring it to the back before I adjusted it. Thank you. This was fun

Brilliant video Kari - many thanks - I have tried many times to achieve something similar without such good success and far move convoluted!

Mary -- When you saw that it was too small you should have click on undo to bring it back to the top. Then fix the size issue before bringing it back to the bottom. Or you could have selected each of the pieces on the top and send them to the back -- which brings the back piece to the top.

Thanks, Kari. That helped. I finally got it. Great project! I learned a lot! Comments are closed.
