Cabin in the Woods Quilt

Last week I shared with you how to draft a cabin block in EQ8.  If you missed the post, you will want to go back and watch the free tutorial.

After watching the video from last week, a number of people shared their blocks and quilts with me on social media.

Margo Reppert

Christel Frischmuth decided to put curtains in her window.

Sandy Moffitt

Sandy Moffitt went a step further and pieced her EQ block. I loved her use of batiks.

Merle Rawson made some adjustments to reflect her little house in the woods in Australia.

Curryanne Hostetler decided to all some blocks from her TKQ Calendar Quilts class. Curryanne is a master at sampler quilts.

Finishing the Cabin in the Woods Quilt

This week I added three more blocks for my Cabin in the Woods quilt.

Log cabin border block by Kari Schell

The log cabin border blocks finishes at 5" x 5".

I plan to use rotary cutting and piecing to construct these blocks.

​Logs will be cut from brown fabric at 1-1/2" strips.

​The red center will be cut 2-1/2" x 2-1/2".

Shrink and Flip Trees by Kari Schell

The Shrink and Flip tree block finishes at 10" x 10".  Each tree is 5" x 5".

​The shrink and flip trees would also be conducive to rotary cutting and piecing.  Or you could foundation piece the trees, if that is your preferred construction method.

Corner block with tree and star by Kari Schell

The Tree and Star corner block also measures 10" x 10". 

The star section is 4" x 4" and you could use your favorite method of constructing flying geese units for the star points.

For the tree I plan to use the rotary cutting instructions from EQ.

Here is the Cabin in the Woods final quilt designed in EQ8.  The quilt would be fun to scrap piece.  I am still trying to decide if I want to to pull in some fall colors for the trees or stick with the greens.
