April Showers Mystery Raindrop Blocks

4/14/2018

My positive thoughts for spring aren't working very well these days.  We are heading into our fourth snowstorm for the month of April (with a prediction of another 6-12 inches).  However I will think positively.  By the end of this mystery series it will be spring in North America.  I can almost guarantee that.

In today's post we will continue on with the April Showers mystery quilt.  During this session we will draft our raindrop block (I refuse to change it to a snowflake)  and set it in the quilt.

With the April Showers mystery Electric Quilt project and quilt, I am teaming up with Tina Dillard the owner, designer, teacher and publisher of Quilting Affection Designs.

I will share with you how to create the quilt in Electric Quilt, and Tina will share with you how to actually make the quilt on her blog. I am super impressed with her techniques.  I will be pulling out my Studio 180 Design rulers to try this myself.

Click here to get instructions for piecing the raindrop blocks in this week’s video tutorial.  Here are Tina's raindrop blocks.

Hi Kari,

How much snow did you get? Here in Delaware, we had 2 inches of rain yesterday into this morning. I've been working on The April Showers Quilt project and yesterday I was making the rain drops as I was hearing the rain on the roof. I am Paper Piecing the blocks, this is something I've wanted to try and thought your quilt would be fun to try this on. My umbrellas are done and the center row is sown together. I was waiting to finish this section, waiting for your corner blocks. I'm enjoying making the blocks this way, they come out really nice, it is a lot of work and slow.
I hope the sun comes out today in your area and the snow starts to disappear. Have a nice day.

I think we got around 18 inches this go around. I decided to be grateful that with my heart valve replacement a couple years ago I was able to shovel it all myself. Although it can move to spring any time now. Glad to see you enjoying the project and looking forward to seeing your final quilt.

Kari,

Please don't think I was pushing you, I was just making a funny, haha. I finished what I was working on and I was doing well and didn't want to stop. I knew you would have the next section out on Saturday.

I hope the weather has gotten better for you. I just wish the wind would go away here in Delaware. . I thought the month of March was the windy month, not April. The question is, what kind of weather will May bring. I need to plant my garden so I can do some canning come the fall.

Terri
