Congratulations to Joan H. for winning the $25 gift certificate towards an EQ class as a result of her entry in the Blue Moon Blog Hop.
The opening exercises for the winter Olympics was last night and I am already hooked. I was up way too late on Wednesday evening watching curling -- the chess like game of the Olympics according to one of the commentators. Curling was a gym class in high school so I thought I understood the game -- but we pretty much just threw the stone down the ice and hoped for the best.
It took me quite a few attempts to get a curling image I actually liked that was reasonably easy to foundation piece. Here is my ending pattern. Please feel free to download it for tracing if you wish to replicate my block.
In the free video tutorial I take you though sectioning and drafting this block. I also made a mistake and selected the wrong block type (EasyDraw rather than EasyDraw plus Applique). I will also share will you my trick for fixing that problem.
My Attempt at Winter Sports
On a personal note, while on vacation earlier this week, I made it out cross country skiing. Yes that is frost on my eyebrows and eyelashes. The weather was a little frigid. I think I will stick with skating at the indoor rinks in Minneapolis.

Lori -- At this point the only way to get the block is to redraft it in EQ. I am debating turning this into a pattern at some point -- just not sure of the timing.

Do you need to have embroidery capabilities to complete the thread art machine embroidered hearts.

Susan -- Yes you do need a sewing machine or embroidery machine with embroidery capability to complete the embroidered blocks. The quilt can be assembled with a standard sewing machine.

Love your curling block! I'll have to give it a go. Are you going to make enough blocks from the Winter Olympics to make a quilt? Hmmm, could make a reversible quilt by making Summer Olympics blocks for the back!! Love your hearts...they would translate well to quilting!

Susan -- I will be presenting a small quilted wallhanging option for these blocks. But nowhere near the number of blocks presented with the Summer Games quilt.

In trying to replicate Kari Shell's Curling block in her Winter Olympics tutorial, I do not find in my EQ8 Fabric Library any of the fabric patterns she used. Is my library not up to date?

Thanks for asking. A week ago someone suggested I try out this new collection from Benartex called Winter Games. You can find the collection here. http://www.benartex.com/contempo/fabric-gallery.html/?collection=1877&navision_type_collection=28 Comments are closed.
