Transferring Designs from Electric Quilt to Silhouette Cameo

1/11/2017

Did you know I have a You Tube channel?  My goal has been to place copies of my older videos on my You Tube channel.  This will give you an easy place to search for those oldies but goodies. It is also useful if you are searching for a particular Electric Quilt or Art and Stitch topic.

You Tube informed me that I now have over 1,000 subscribers.  I suspect a few of you may be on that list.  If not, feel free to hop over to my You Tube channel and subscribe.

Included are separate playlists for both Art and Stitch and Electric Quilt videos.  So you can focus on the area that most interests you.

When cleaning up my You Tube channel, I came across a video on transferring applique designs from Electric Quilt to the Silhouette Cameo.  What a great way to cut your applique shapes -- particularly if you need precision in the process.

I thought I would replay the video this week as I suspect many of you may have missed it back in 2014.  :)

That was very interesting. I'd not heard of Silhouette Cameo before. I'm not sure I quite understood about adding the fusible webbing sheet - do you set it on when you are about to cut or did you already have it fused to the fabric before cutting but left the paper on one side? Does it fuse in the process of cutting??? Told you, I didn't quite grasp the concept - sorry Kari
Also, if the mat is sticky, I'm sure it would pick up bits of threads from the fabric and lint. Can you clean that off without removing the sticky surface? Very curious here.

Lilia -- I should offer a disclaimer before reading my responses to your question. I don't really feel like an expert in Silhouette Cameo cutting. I am much better on the computer part than the actual cutting. I think I ruined 2 mats in the first week of owning my Cameo. The lst one however has lasted me over a year --s o I must be doing something at least slightly better. :)

First I heat set the fusible webbing on the fabric. (I prefer Soft Fuse Premium paperbacked fusible web -- beautiful hand and good stick). 2nd - I then remove the paper and adhere it fusible webbing side down to the cutting mat. Then I run it through the cutting machine.

And it will pick up fabric threads -- but you can clean your mat. The biggest issue is making sure your mat is sticky enough that the fabric piece does not slide in the cutting process. I have an old can of basting spray which seems to work pretty well on my cutting mat to add the "extra stick" if I find my fabric is sliding.

Thank you Kari. That was much clearer for me and it sounds like you've mastered it. I'll keep hold of this info. I've been thinking about getting a cutting machine, not sure which is the best out there but I'd not seen this one with the computerizing or if I had, it's been too long and I've forgotten.
