Sharing Student Successes

12/26/2020

If you have been thinking that 2021 is your year for mastering Electric Quilt 8, now is the time to subscribe to the TKQ Wait List.  There just may be an opportunity to lock in at 2020 prices before the end of the year.  But you must be on the wait list to hear more.

Christmas Quilts

I've always loved making Christmas quilts over the years -- sometimes from purchased patterns and sometimes my own designs.  Here is my collection of quilts (photographed in 2005).

Sharing Student Successes

In a year filled with a lot of challenges for all of us, I love celebrating the successes of people in my classes.  Seeing their drafted quilts just makes me feel happy.  Enjoy the virtual show.

Tech Know Quilters Masters Challenge

Who has a roll of jelly rolls strips and are struggling with what to do with them?  Jelly roll strips are 2-1/2" x width of fabric.  So if you don't have them, they are super easy to make from your own fabric stash.

TKQ Masters members were challenged to design a quilt that would would be 2-1/2" strip friendly.  Here are their quilts.

Nancy Duggar Weeks I just obtained the navy blue fabric and finishing the quilt is my goal. The stars and border are all jelly roll.

Kathleen Scargle McCormick The Blues (Moda) 10" block.
Picture
Kathleen Scargle McCormick I cleaned up the block from earlier, and then made 3 colorings of the block. Rotated the block...used the ombres for the border. 10" blocks, 2" borders, 38" x 48".
Picture
Maureen Feron Pinwill All of the the pieces within the block are made with a section that isn't more than 2" in width. Some of the strips are divided by cutting with straight lines and others using a diagonal cut. The heart section is made first, adding the vertical strips on the side, then addng the horizontal strips to the top and bottom of the block. When going on to design the quilt my idea is to transpose the two central vertical strips every other block so that there is movement in the quilt design and it does not look so uniform.
Picture
Dorothe Ilgner Most of the patches are 2.5 inch unfinished. you would need 27 jelly roll strips, some contrasting fabric and background fabric. One block could be cut from 3 joined strips with very little waste.

November Tech Know Quilter Show

Tech Know Quilters is a membership of Electric Quilt 8 owners who are mastering Electric Quilt through online training.  At the end of their November class, they were encouraged to apply what they learned during the month of November.

Tech Know Quilters is open to new members only a few times a year.  You can sign up for the wait list here and we will notify you of the next open enrollment period (which just may happen next Monday).

I love having people at different stages of the EQ journey submitting designs.  I am so proud of this group of quilt designers.
Picture
Dorothee Ilgner My November class was about embellishments. I enjoyed the playful approach and designed a quilt with redwork embroidery and a lot of prairie points on the edge.
Picture
Moira Hewitt My class was easy draw kaleidoscopes, I used serendipity to modify one of the blocks. and loved the secondary design.
Picture
Julie Pedersen I took the Embellishments Class this month. Here is my quilt that combined several of the lessons using the pinwheels, embroidery, and more.
Picture
Nancy Messuri I took the Quilt Layouts class. I played with the Baby Blocks layout and Christa Watson fabrics for this challenge.

Picture
Anita Barton I studied Mix and Match Medallion Centers and Borders. I enjoyed using serendipity for the center medallion, adding borders and auto borders. I used Twilight Chic by Deb Tucker. So much fun!! Now I am working on directions using Deb Tucker's rulers too.
Picture
Mary McMurray Cannizzaro Just catching up....I played with different log cabin designs to see what would happen. Love the glow created and the asymmetrical log cabin block.
