Did you know that you can draw your own quilting motifs using Electric Quilt 8? And then audition them on a quilt you designed using Electric Quilt 8?
Last week, I shared how to create a a Christmas feathered star quilt using Electric Quilt 8. If you missed the post, you can still catch it here.
In this video tutorial, I will share how to start with a holly motif from the EQ8 block library. I could have drawn it from scratch -- but the beauty of the block library is I don't have to.
Using that simple block we will create four separate quilting motifs. These motifs can be printed out at any size and used not only in Electric Quilt 8, but also to use with you quilt to add quilting. Once the motifs are drafted, we will add them to Layer 3 for the feathered star quilt drafted last week. On Layer 3, we have the option to resize and place our motifs any place we wish on the quilt. It is one of the pluses in working with Layer 3.
Here are the quilting motifs from the video.
Here is the updated Christmas feathered star quilt.
I would love to see your quilting motifs. Feel free to post on the Learning EQ Facebook group.
Tech Know Quilters Quilting Designs Class
I have an entire class focused on drafting your own quilting designs using Electric Quilt 8.
Often when working with a pattern, the final instructions are "quilt as desired". We know from looking at finished quilts that the quilting designs can either enhance or detract from the piecing of a quilt. By adding proposed quilting designs to your EQ project you will have an opportunity to audition your proposed designs and make changes before finishing your quilt. Lessons in this class include:
The calendar quilt class is offered exclusively in Tech Know Quilters. Tech Know Quilters is a membership for Electric Quilt 8 users who are mastering their design and EQ8 skills. Sign up for the wait list to be informed on the next open enrollment period.
Current Tech Know Quilter members can let us know if they would like to swap their January class for the Quilting Designs class. Please note that this is a more advanced class.
