Welcome to all new and returning visitors to On Point Quilter. A special welcome to those that are doing the Blue Moon Blog Hop.
Those of you that follow me regularly know that I love Electric Quilt -- and I am passionate about assisting quilters to unleash the power of this amazing software. So in my free EQ8 video tutorial I will share with you how to use Electric Quilt 8 to create a stunning star quilt with the Blue Moon fabric from Island Batik.
Although this quilt looks complex, note that the blocks in the quilt are actually very paper piecing friendly. Electric Quilt can easily produce these foundations for you. Which quilt would you like to make?

My favorite tool is my Martelli rotating cutting mat. I love version 2 of your quilt. I have EQ7, but never completely learned all of it. Would your class also work on EQ7?
Kari Schell
2/8/2018 07:57:53 am
Yes -- this concept would also work with EQ7. Your program will look a bit different. But the quilt is definitely doable.

Currently my favorite tool is the Quilters Select rotary cutter from Alex Anderson. At first, I questioned the heavy weight of the cutter, but after using it, I now prefer it to any other cutter I have.

My favorite quilting tool is EQ8. I am still learning how to use it, but can spend hours having fun working with it. I love seeing a quilt on TV or else where and seeing if I can figure out how to make it, or just designing a new quilt in EQ. 2/8/2018 09:32:52 am
I thoroughly enjoy your blog, Kari, and have learned so much about EQ from it. After EQ8, my favorite tool is my Clover slim Hera marker - I use it for "pressing" all my seams.
Jean Wall

My favorite tool is my Studio die cutter by Acuquilt. As much as possible I try to design my quilts around those shapes. Saves hours of time.

Of course my very favourite tool is EQ8 but I spend more time playing than I do Quilting. However I love to learn things even if I never use it in a real quilt.

Only one tool, that's hard. Would have to be the Martelli rotary cutter. Easy on my hand.

Love both versions of the quilt Kari. Apart from EQ8 which I am loving my favourite quilting tool is my rotary cutter.

My favorite tool is whatever one I am using at that time. Each tool is made for a specific action(s) but quilters have found other ways to use that tool and the results are marvelous. My guild has a member that is instructing guild members on how to use the EQ8 program. It is a wonderful class. We also learn things from each other. Quilting is just so exciting.

EQ8 is my favorite tool for quilting! The software is so flexible and easy to maneuver, and packed with great features. Learning the software with Kari's Tech Know Quilters classes has been fantastic!! Just a few minutes a day and I already feel very comfortable with EQ8.

My Favorite quilting tool is a pair of very pointy eyebrow tweezers, They can catch a wayward seam and hold it over as I stitch past (like at a cross seam, they double as an awl.

I don't think I could piece quilts without a bamboo stiletto for holding down those seam joins or tricky points. It's my favorite tool.

Hard to say what my favorite tool is, as there are a lot of great tools I use, but in the end, the part that puts it all together is my sewing machine, so my sewing machine. I like both versions of the quilt.

Love your EQ8 course. My favorite tool has to be my Rowenta Perfect Steam Station . Quilters spend lots and lots of time ironing our fabrics !

My favorite quilting tool is the rubber shelf liner, I can cut it to any size, thick enough to put on mat and hold rulers when trimming blocks or cutting fabric, rulers don't move.

Your Blue Moon Star quilt is lovely. My favorite tools have generally been my rotary cutter and rulers. However, lately I am loving using the Studio die cutter by Accuquilt that I am able to use at my local quilt shop. It really saves time when I'm cutting strips and squares (and it's more accurate). Also, I have been able to cut chisel pieces and tumblers that I probably wouldn't have tried to on my own.

I am a new owner of EQ8 and I hope it becomes my favorite quilting tool. Currently, I would say my favorite tool is a Westalee ruler. Once I get EQ8 downloaded, I'll be looking at taking one of your classes.

I love your version #2! Right now my favorite quilting tool is my seam ripper...I'm having disagreements with a paper-pieced block! Do not consider me for your drawing as I don't have EQ.

I have so many favorite quilting tools for different jobs, that it's difficult to pick just 1. For drafting & designing, EQ is my fav, for cutting, AccuQuilt Studio is tops, for piecing, it's my sewing machine, & quilting it's my mid-arm. My favorite gadget is the clover tailor's awl. I use it for many different things.

My favorite "tool" is my neighbor who is my quilting mentor. She got me into quilting 4 years ago and is always available when I need help or advice on how to improve my skills. She'll even share from her stash when I just can't find the right fabric.
Kristina Heili
2/8/2018 01:31:26 pm
I would make Option 2 design for a Blue Moon quilt. I love ALL of my quilting tools and I have LOTS of them, but my favorite is my custom-made 24"x72" ironing board with adjustable legs.

Most necessary or most useful - that's the question. What would I do without my rotary rulers and cutter. I rarely use templates anymore. Pins, scissors, duh, how could I survive? But now, EQ8 has opened up so many more possibilities for my quilting pleasure.

my favorite tool is EQ8 + my imagination.
Sandra Toomey
2/8/2018 01:53:30 pm
I love both versions of the paper pieced Blue Moon quilts but like the second one best. My favorite tool is my design board which is nothing but batting glued to a piece of styrofoam insulation and stuck on the wall. Would be lost without it.

I'd have to say it would be my seam ripper HaHa!

My favorite quilting tool is my rotary cutter and mat. These tools were not available when I made my first quilts as a teenager. Quilting is enjoyable if you have the right tools. A mat and cutter are essential! I love the EQ8 program and all the help you are giving us with your lessons, Kari. Thanks so much!

Hands down my favorite quilt tool is my husband. He does the laundry, gets the meals, cleans the house, has told the ladies at the fabric store to sell me extra fabric so I don't run out when I do my quilt. He is my quilting buddy.
Susan Green

My favorite tool is my Roxanne thimble. 2/8/2018 04:24:22 pm
What a great quilt. I have enjoyed the Tech Know classes and the Shoot for the Stars classes. I think my favorite quilting tool is the Sewing Machines I own. I have complete confidence in their ability to tackle whatever project I throw at them and I can rely on perfect stitches each time.
Kristy
2/8/2018 04:25:30 pm
My favorite sewing tool would have to be my Bernina sewing machine. It is a workhorse and is reliable. Beyond that I would say EQ8, as I am finding I am able to save copious amounts of time in the designing process, which results with more time on the Bernina.

I love using Inklingo for all my quilts. It prints the cutting and sewing lines on the back of your fabric, which gives you the best accuracy. I no longer make any quilts without it.

Love your EQ8 Tech Know Quilters class. Great job Kari, videos are are thorough and easy to follow. My favorite quitling tool is my VISA card! It lets me buy all the fabric I can hide from my husband and all the notions a quilter could ever want!

EQ8 is definitely my favorite tool--gives me creative options I might not have thought about and I can slice and dice without cutting into my stash until ready. Thank you for the classes, Kari, gaining proficiency faster and having fun!

2/8/2018 07:40:24 pm
I love quilt #2. I wouldn't be opposed to either one, though; maybe both. Since I do a lot of paper piecing, I have 3 that I wouldn't want to paper piece without; my Add-a-Quarter and Add-a-Eighth rulers and my small wallpaper roller. I know they make a small flat roller, but when I started paper piecing it was the only roller available.
Joan Hoffman
2/8/2018 08:01:36 pm
I can make blocks with cardboard templates and scissors or rotary cutters and rulers. I can sew by hand or machine. I can design on graph paper or EQ8. I can undo seams with my seam ripper or a pair of scissors.
Buffie Lorah
2/8/2018 08:39:32 pm
My favorite tool is the "add a quarter ruler." I do alot of paper piecing and it makes things go so much smoother! I love your blue moon stars and would love to try #2.

So many favorites -- it's hard to pick just one. I've been cutting quite a few strips this week with my "magic ruler"! Actually, it's the Stripology Ruler by Creative Grids. It's very sturdy and makes cutting strips and squares much quicker.

I think at this point my favorite quilting tool is an African porcupine quill. It's super sharp on one end, but has more of a blunt tip on the opposite end. Thanks so much for the chance to win a discount on EQ8 classes. I don't have it yet, but one of these days... I still have EQ7, but haven't learned to use it... Again...one of these days.

I like version 2 best. I love stars. I am working on a foundation pieced lone star variation I designed in EQ8. It is hard to pick a favorite tool, for designing EQ8 for quilting my thimble. I love both hand quilting and designing.

My favorite is the Strip Tube ruler. Using it, you can create blocks from tubes of strips, or trim half and quarter square triangles before pressing them, so they are always square and easy to trim with only 2 cuts.
