Continuing on with the fall Embroidery/Applique quilt.  For this week's Electric Quilt video tutorial I am tracing an acorn from clip art I found on the internet.  This is a great exercise to practice your applique drawing skills.  There are only three simple shapes in the acorn.

I also tried a couple of different fill stitches when digitizing the design in EQ Stitch.  If you don't have EQ Stitch, you could definitely applique the blocks instead of embroidering them.​

Here is my finished block.  I really love the different textures and think they add a lot to the quilt.  After watching the stitch-out, I realized that I really didn't want the acorn satin stitch under the acorn top.  If you look closely you can see the gold edge peaking though the brown fill.  I have some ideas on how to fix that going forward -- but that will need to be a future video.

Forecasts are calling for 1-3 inches of snow in northern Minnesota and I am commiserating with my northern friends.  Can I make it through the weekend without turning on the heat in my house?  I really hate to turn it on before the end of October. It forces me to acknowledge that winter is approaching.

On the positive side -- if winter is approaching, it means Christmas is coming.

It is definitely time to get started on those quilted Christmas gifts.  Do you need some fun fast projects.  My Christmas Present's pattern is sure to be a hit.
