I tested Modern Flight at the MN Quilt show and it's a success. It is now ready to be used in your quilt shop or with your quilt guild. No pictures of the quilt for this post -- or it wouldn't be a mystery. However, send me a note and I would be happy to share a photo will you. There are four separate sizes for this quilt (from Wall to Queen). I am committing to not showing the new pattern on my website or with a distributor for 12 months. This will ensure the pattern stays a mystery for your shop participants. Here is how my Mystery Program Works:1. Purchase a minimum of ten mystery patterns (and commit to purchase additional patterns equal to participant count at the event). 2. On Point Quilter will send you a Mystery Event Package which will include: (a) File with all the pre-work and individual clues for your event. (Just print off the number or copies you need for class participants) (b) Electric Quilt 7 file for creating coloration options in your shop’s fabrics. (c) Tip sheet for a successful event. 3. Piece a sample quilt or borrow one of my trunk show quilts for your sample during the event. (Subject to availability.) 4. Provide a full pattern to participants at the end of the event. 5. Note that extra patterns may be sold in the shop. However I ask that they not be sold on your website or pictures shared via social media until July 2018. Modern Flight Fabric SuggestionsOnly 5 fabrics are required for this quilt, making it easy for you (and your customers) to select fabric for this quilt.) I found it useful to use two complementary color families for the Medium and Dark fabrics. The background could be a light in either of these color families or could just be a neutral fabric. Or you could make Medium 1 the light and the Background a Medium value fabric. This pattern is really very versatile. Here are some fabric choices that I thought worked well – but you certainly don’t need to be limited to these ideas. Modern Flight Tool SuggestionsInstructions are included for using both the Tucker Trimmer 1 and the Wing Clipper. Both rulers may be purchased wholesale from Studio 180 Design. Alternative instructions are provided for those not wishing to use the specialty rulers. Hint: I found that most end up purchasing the rulers after seeing the demonstration of the tool in class. Other Patterns Available in the Mystery FormatNote that these patterns have been published on my website. However, the pre-work handouts and the clues provide no reference to the pattern which allows this to stay a mystery for your class participants.

At International Quilt Market I debuted an Electric Quilt club program for brick and mortar quilt shops. This club program includes videos, step by step instructional handouts, and patterns.
One of the significant aspects of the program is that it allows your customers to design their Electric Quilt projects in fabrics you already have in your shop.
Are you intrigued?
Here is an description of the program (excerpted from the first video).

Topics in Series #1
I have been asked if it is possible for the program to be run over 12 months (rather than 6). Absolutely. If you choose to do so, I would recommend that students work through the videos and the EQ tutorials during the first session. They could also purchase their fabric at this time.
If you run the program over 12 months, use the second month to review the pattern and demo any recommended tools. You could potentially even make this a working session to allow students to work on piecing their quilts.
- Working with Fabric Collections
- Easy Draw Basics
- Mix and Match Medallions (part 1)
- Mix and Match Medallions (part 2)
- Bargello Quilts

Option 2: EQ Private Coaching Program

- Are you frustrated with your ability to translate your quilt ideas into a printed design?
- Have you taken classes that didn’t really cover the topics you want to learn or address the specific questions you have?
- Do you have trouble finding classes in your area?
- Are you tired of endless searching through manuals and online forums to find answers to your questions that aren’t really the answers you were seeking?
- Is your time to grow your EQ skills limited?
- Are your EQ skills out of date or do you need a jump start on learning or relearning the program?
- Do you need guidance in turning your designs into formal patterns?
You are not alone. I’ve been there and understand the frustrations in learning a new program. I’ve had that great quilt idea and struggled with drafting a viable design that I could easily piece. I wished I had a private coach to help me with my specific challenges. I would love for you to know the incredible power of Electric Quilt and experience the satisfaction of creating that awesome design through the use of Electric Quilt.
I know that you may be ready to make the commitment to expand your knowledge and use of Electric Quilt. I have openings in my schedule and will be taking on a limited number of private coaching clients to work with in expanding your Electric Quilt technical skills.
What's Included
- A self-assessment questionnaire to assess your current Electric Quilt skill levels and identify those areas you wish to work on.
- Six 20 minute one on one coaching sessions with Kari (one every other week). These sessions will be provided through online computer sharing sessions. This means I will be able to see you work and provide real time guidance. You can choose to work with me on specific classes or topics, or use the time for problem solving a project. I will provide you a list of classes if you wish to work through one of my existing classes.
- Access between coaching sessions to me through e-mail.
- Enrollment in a private Facebook group for all coaching members. Share pictures of what you are working on, ask questions and interact with other members.
Your Investment
Option 1: $250 for three month program (6 coaching sessions).
Option 2: $450 for six month program (13 coaching sessions).
Option 2: $450 for six month program (13 coaching sessions).

I'm currently packing my car and preparing for the long drive from Minneapolis to Houston. This is my first Houston market. I'm a little nervous, but looking forward to vending.
If you are going to market, please stop by my booth (#425) to say hi. I would love to meet you in person.
I wanted to give you a heads up on the three new patterns I'm releasing for this market and a new mystery program.
Pre-orders are being accepted (and Checker will be carrying the patterns as well).

2+ 6 + Easy
This “go to” baby/toddler quilt is easy to select fabrics for and it’s easy to modify so everyone on your list doesn’t end up with the same quilt. And, more importantly, it’s quick and easy to sew. Why the title? This quilt uses two main fabrics and six fat quarters, making fabric selection a breeze. At 36" wide, the quilt length can vary from 45"-60" depending on the number of rows you use. Make it your way! There is almost no fabric waste with this quilt. This one would be super easy to kit up. You need 1/2 yard of the theme fabric. I suggest using colors in the theme fabric to select the six coordinating fat quarters. The last fabric is the sashing (which just needs to be a contrasting fabric). I've made four or five of these for new babies in our church. I love how fast they go together and (as noted in the description) they are all different. Wholesale Price: $5 |
Let's Go Fly a Kite
This is a perfect quilt for a young person (or perhaps a new baby) in your life. The kites look great in a variety of kid’s fabrics. I am recommending 1/2 layer cake (or 23 10 inch squares) for the kites and kite tails. If not using 10” squares, a selection of fat quarters or fat eighths will also work well. Add to that a background and binding -- and you are done with fabric selection. Finished Size: 37 1/2″ x 50″ This pattern has 20 pages -- so it chocked full of illustrations. You can choose to use the Studio 180 Design tools (which I love) or not. Either way the pattern will provide lots of information on how to piece this quilt. Wholesale Price: $6 |
Let's Go Fly a Kite Stacking Pop-Up
I've also partnered with my friend and fellow designer Joanne Harrision Hillestad of Fat Quarter Gypsy to offer a free supplemental sheet that will provide instructions on using my kites with her medium size pop-up.
Her Pop-Up pattern is incredibly popular. And they are so fun to make. I'll share more with you (and maybe a video demo of the pop-up in action) on a future blog post.
Click on a copy of the photo below to get the free supplemental instruction sheet.

Corner Square
Squares or circles? What do you see when looking at this quilt? I love the optical illusion created when working with corner beam units. Fabric selection is easy. Quilt may be completed with only four fabrics or may be scrapped using fat quarters or fat eighths. There are three size options. The cover quilt (Small) is 50 x 62. Medium is 62 x 74. Large is 74 x 98. This quilt has a very modern look with its angles and white space. But I also needed to try a version in my favorite Civil War fabrics (shown below). Wholesale Price: $5 |
