A four day flash sale for Tech Know Quilters will be starting on Monday, August 26, 2024.  To get information, make sure to subscribe to my On Point Quilter newsletter.

PolyDraw Wagon Wheels - New Block and Quilt

The blocks and quilt I am sharing today were designed by Mary Groesbeck.  Mary is a pattern designer, longarm quilter and a member of my Tech Know Quilters membership program.  Check out some of Mary’s other work on her website.
If you have used PolyDraw in Electric Quilt 8, you may have noticed that nodes can only be placed at intersections of a grid.  That can make it a bit of a challenge when a block needs to combine two different grids.

The Wagon Wheel block has aspects of a circular grid -- but the layout has sashing in the center of the block.  This sashing cannot be part of the circular grid.  So for that we will need to use the rectangle grid.

Sound confusing.  It really isn't.

Check out the video tutorial and see how you can combine those grids for the Wagon Wheels block and quilt.
Here are the blocks from the video.

Tech Know Quilter Showcase

Enjoy seeing how Tech Know Quilter members stretch themselves to create new blocks and quilts using Electric Quilt 8.

It is always fun seeing how they chose to take what they are learning in the classes to the next level.

Eileen Dover I finally finished intro to easy draw. So glad I decided to go back and take this course. I knew a lot of the stuff but I also learned a lot.

Alice Hertel June was a month to explore all things possible with PolyDraw and EasyDraw. Oh, the places your mind can go. This would most definately be a foundation paper pieced quilt. I love the softer tones with the pops of darker colours.

Marcia Jensen Our local guild has a President's Challenge this year to make a quilt that represents our "quilt journey. I designed a quilt in EQ (pic below) that shows representative blocks from five "turning point' quilts that I have done over the years. Designing the quilt in EQ was so much fun! I'm still not sure I can "DO" the border units, but I'm going to try!

Denise Mohler Another month of great lessons. I learned by adding a few additional lines can change the appearance of the block... Lesson 7 was one of my favorites

Julie Pedersen For the Masters Wheels class, I learned new techniques and explored different types of quilts than I had done before. I took a quilt from one of our lessons and created this one. Kari never ceases to challenge us! Thanks, Kari Schell.

Terry McCaskey I took pictures of antique car wheels for my time spent last week with the Lincoln Highway Association Conference tour. Using polydraw I made a block but really should have done applique to get a "spoke" rather than a wedge...but I need the polydraw practice.

Zdenka Nemethova In June I enjoyed Masters Basket Quilts Classes and also Masters Wheel Classes. Love all lessons ❤, these two are my favourite: Baby basket quilt and Game Room quilt
