Summer Games Challenge Block 1 - Diving

Presented on Friday, Diving was the first block in the Summer Games Challenge.

I chose to piece my block with a variety of batiks.  The blocks finish at 6" x 6".  I suspect fabrics will be easy to pull from your stash.

Friendship Rings

Create a block with five interlocking rings.

Friendship Rings Block Sewn by Kari Schell
The Olympic rings were designed in 1894 by Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin—a French aristocrat and intellectual.  Here is what he had to say about the rings.

"A white background, with five interlaced rings in the centre: blue, yellow, black, green and red...is symbolic; it represents the five inhabited continents of the world, united by Olympism, while the six colors are those that appear on all the national flags of the world at the present time."

You are welcome to download the friendship ring block for tracing in Electric Quilt 8.
Here is the video on drafting the Friendship Rings block using Electric Quilt 8.
For those in the Summer Games challenge, you will want to piece the block with a finished size of 14" x 14".

For those not in the challenge (along with those in the challenge inspired to draft a new quilt) -- consider drafting  a quilt staring the Friendship Rings block.
Post any pictures of your blocks or quilts in the Learning EQ Facebook group.  To keep the Facebook group from getting cluttered, share your pictures in the Rings post.
